What’s it like with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), what do you do?
Question by : What’s it like with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), what do you do?
I have predominant diarrhea IBS. I didn’t know about it until I was 20 because I thought everybody with diarrhea felt extremely intense pain from abdominal cramping, but nobody ever understood what I was talking about (like nobody could relate to how i felt). So I learned that I have irritable bowel syndrome.
The pain is EXTREME!!! It hurts so much that it makes me sweat, shake, and start panicing to the point where I can’t pay attention to anyone. A bowel movement takes the pain away, but it can take 2 hours before I can have one. It’s pure torture. I never know when I’m going to have an episode…..sometimes I can go 6 months without an episode….sometimes I’m having 3 a week.
I need help. I just read that peppermint oil can help. What other stuff is there? Feel frree to share your experiences.

Answer by But Inside I’m Screaming
I avoid the foods that I know can, and probably will, trigger an attack. Sometimes, I get them anyway. Peppermint tea helps me. It seems to calm down the spasms in my GI tract and helps reduce or relieve the nausea. I’ve just started recently, to switch to a gluten free diet. I don’t have celiac disease, but have read that the diet may reduce the attacks in number and severity. I’ve also all but elimated dairy from my diet, and that actually has helped. My attacks are like yours….to the point where I think I should go to the ER at times. Good luck to you!
What do you think? Answer below!
Hello. I’ve been living with this for years, so i can totally relate to what you’re going through. I get the same kind of attacks you do. There’s two main triggers for IBS, stress and diet. Learning to control stress ( easier said, then done ), and learning what foods you can, and cannot tolerate, is the key to managing your IBS. Stay away from anything spicy, fatty, or fried, and totally avoid any kind of fast food. There are certain foods that will trigger an attack for me, so pay attention to anything you ate when you have an attack. Trust me, if you can’t tolerate a certain food, you’ll know it. There are some medications you can get to help with IBS. Don’t know if you’ve ever tried them, but i have, and they can help. I had to stop taking them because i didn’t like the side effects. I usually only will have 3 to 4 bad attacks a year now. But my stomach hurts almost everyday. Its just something i’ve learned to live with. I don’t like peppermint tea, but sucking on hard peppermint candy helps too. Heat always helps with my stomach cramps. My heating pad is my best friend
I hope you find something that helps you feel better. Take care.
If your looking for an all an all natural alternative for IBS, you should look for Iberogast.
It includes peppermint and Iberis Amara (main ingredient) which works as anti-inflammatory.
